- Disney Cruise 2010!
On February 7, 2010, the Kurian family embarked on their first Disney Cruise!
On Sunday, we woke up at 4:30am in order to leave Fort Myers by 5:30 and allow us plenty of time to get to Port Canaveral by 11am. Despite Jacob's awful behavior, which started at the cruise terminal, the 4-night cruise to the Bahamas was pretty enjoyable. I didn't get to take any pictures in the terminal, but on the bright side, we were the second family to board the ship!
The Disney Wonder left Port Canaveral on a very brisk SuperBowl Sunday. I knew it was going to be a little cool, but I wasn't expecting down-right COLD weather (cold in this case meaning below 60 degrees). Although the SuperBowl was broadcast on the big screen TV above the pool, there were only a handful of people watching it there. Everyone else, Sanjay included, watched the game in one of the ship's lounges.
On Monday the ship docked at Nassau, Bahamas but we didn't bother exploring the city (hence no pictures). We've already been to Nassau so we decided to stay onboard and enjoy the ship instead. That afternoon we watched "Toy Story", both the movie (in 3-D) and the show!
On Tuesday the ship docked at Disney's private island called Castaway Cay (pronounced "key") which is also in the Bahamas, but this time we got out and enjoyed the beach. The water was COLD, but there was no stopping Alisha!
Wednesday was a sea day (and yes, I hit the spa!). We also watched what was my favorite show of the cruise, "Disney Dreams". I didn't take any pictures of that show because I was busy enjoying it :) With it being the last day of the cruise, the kids' club put on a show called "Friendship Rocks" which included some dancing and a slideshow of all the fun things the kids did on the cruise.
That night the ship was really moving (and making me nauseous), so I stayed in the cabin while Sanjay took Alisha to watch " 'Til We Meet Again" (where the characters say good-bye) so those are the only pictures he took on the cruise (but fortunately they came out AOK).
Before we knew it, it was Thursday morning and our ship was back in Port Canaveral! Disney has a pretty organized disembarkation process. We even got to enjoy one last breakfast in the dining room before we said good-bye (for now)!
Alisha LOVED the Disney experience, and I know in a couple of years Jacob will love it too. That will give us the perfect excuse to try Disney again!
Pictures to look for - Jacob double-picking his nose and Jacob wearing Alisha's headband. The kid may drive me nuts, but he also knows how to crack me up!
